Short answer. Pick the purpose, take or choose one portrait, and set the top and bottom edges of the photo yourself. The app keeps the aspect ratio, checks that exactly one face is present, and saves a JPEG sized for the purpose or a 4×6 inch print sheet. Face detection runs on the device with bundled models, and photos are not uploaded. Passport, license and ID card photos always keep their original background: the Korean passport rules forbid editing the background, the driver's license guide forbids edited or composited photos, and the app applies the same rule to ID card photos. The app checks resolution and file size; it does not measure the head or promise that an office will accept the photo.

The sizes the app works to
The home screen offers five purposes. Each one fixes the photo size, the saved file and whether the background may change.
| Purpose | Photo size | Saved file | Background |
|---|---|---|---|
| Korean passport | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 px JPEG, 500 KB or smaller | Original only. The rules call for a white background and forbid removing or replacing it |
| Korean driver's license | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 px JPEG, 500 KB or smaller | Original only. The photo must not be edited or composited |
| Resident registration card | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 px JPEG | Original only. White is recommended; a light single color is allowed |
| General / profile · 35 × 45 mm | 35 × 45 mm | 413 × 531 px JPEG | Original, white or light blue |
| General · 30 × 40 mm | 30 × 40 mm | 354 × 472 px JPEG | Original, white or light blue |
Pixel sizes are the millimetres at 300 dpi, and saved files carry a 300 dpi tag. The 500 KB cap applies to the two purposes the app marks for online submission. No separate online file rule was confirmed for the resident registration card, so that purpose saves a file of the same size without the cap. The two general purposes are app presets, not official standards.
The official rules were checked on 23 September 2026 against the passport photo rules and online passport application of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the driver's license guide of the Korea Road Traffic Authority, and the ID card page of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. Rules change, so read the current guidance of the office you submit to.
One face is checked before editing starts
- Take photo opens the camera with an oval face guide, a 3-second timer and Switch camera. The camera permission is requested only at that moment.
- Select photo uses the system photo picker and needs no broad photo or storage access.
- After capture or selection, the app looks for faces on the device. If it finds no face or more than one, or the detector could not run, the editor does not open: a message explains why and you stay on the home screen.
- Inputs up to 32 MB are accepted. The rotation recorded in the original is applied to the pixels, so a sideways photo is not saved sideways.
You set the crop; the app keeps the ratio
The preview shows the frame that will be saved. Its top and bottom lines are the edges of the saved photo, not measurements of the head.
- Drag the handles on the right to move the top or the bottom edge. The opposite edge stays where it is, and the width follows the purpose's aspect ratio.
- Drag inside the frame to move it in any direction without changing its size. The frame never extends past the original photo, and the photo cannot be flipped.
- The starting frame is placed from the detected face: centred on it, with the spare height split one part above the head to two parts below the chin. For the three ID purposes the head is aimed at about 34/45 of the height — the middle of the passport rule — and for general photos at 60%, which leaves more shoulders. This is an estimate that has not been validated on real photos, so treat it as a starting point.
- A red Check pose and open eyes. appears when the face looks tilted or turned, or an eye may be closed. It is a hint and does not block saving.
For a Korean passport, the head from crown (excluding hair) to chin must measure 32–36 mm on the 35 × 45 mm photo, and the photo must be taken within the last six months. The app does not measure the head. Check it yourself; the ? button opens the help with a link to the official passport photo guide.
Two confirmations before saving
Save to gallery stays disabled until two boxes are ticked, and the line above the button says what is still missing.
| Box | Shown for | Cleared when |
|---|---|---|
| Framing and margins checked | Every purpose | You move an edge or the frame |
| Passport photo rules checked | Korean passport | Not cleared by crop changes |
| ID photo rules checked | Driver's license and resident registration card | Not cleared by crop changes |
| Background edges checked | The two general purposes | You change the background |
Saving is also blocked when the crop covers fewer source pixels than the output size, with the hint Enlarge the crop or use a larger photo. The app does not upscale a small crop to hide the missing resolution.
Backgrounds: original for IDs, optional for general photos
The Korean passport rules forbid removing the background or compositing a white one, and the driver's license guide asks for a photo that has not been edited or composited. The app applies the same rule to ID card photos, so all three ID purposes work the same way: the background tools are not shown, and the saved file always uses the original pixels. Take the photo against a plain, light wall in even light instead.
For the general purposes, Background offers Original, White and Blue (a light blue). The person is separated with an on-device selfie segmentation model and blended onto the color. Hair and shoulder edges can come out imperfect, which is what Background edges checked asks you to look at. If the separation fails, the current photo is kept and you can try again.
What gets saved
- Save to gallery writes a new JPEG to
Pictures/DotoriIdPhoto. For the passport and driver's license the line above the button reads For online submission · JPEG ≤ 500 KB. The app lowers JPEG quality step by step from 95 down to 60, and if the file still does not fit, saving fails instead of degrading the photo further. - Save 4 × 6 print sheet writes a 1200 × 1800 px sheet — 4 × 6 inches at 300 dpi — holding six 35 × 45 mm photos or nine 30 × 40 mm photos. Light grey cut lines sit 1 px outside each photo, with cut marks around it; the photo pixels are unchanged. Print at actual size, without scaling or crop-to-fit.
- The dialog after saving shows the pixel size, the file size and the folder, with Share to send the file to an app you choose. Open gallery opens the phone's gallery app.
- The original photo is never overwritten, and saved files do not copy its metadata, such as GPS location.
A face photo is personal information
- There is no account and no developer-operated photo server. Face detection and background separation run on the device with ML Kit models bundled in the app, so no model download is needed. Choosing a photo from a cloud photo provider may still need a connection.
- The chosen photo is copied to a temporary file, decoded, and the temporary file is removed at once. The photo being edited stays in memory, and working files are excluded from Android backup and device transfer. If Android closes the app in the background, the edit starts over.
- A saved photo belongs to your gallery from then on. The gallery or a cloud photo service may back it up under its own settings, and uninstalling the app does not delete it. Deleting it in the gallery does not recall copies you have already shared.
- If you process a photo of someone else, make sure you have their permission.
- Photos are not attached to ad requests. The home screen shows an AdMob banner with Google's consent flow; the camera and editing screens have no ads, and Privacy options in the help reopens the choices. ML Kit diagnostics and advertising have their own data practices, described in the privacy policy.
Known limits of version 1
- Korean sizes only. Overseas passports and visas are not covered.
- No head measurement, no acceptance check and no guarantee that an office accepts the photo. The receiving authority decides.
- No beauty filters, retouching or tone changes.
- One photo at a time, with no in-app archive of earlier edits.
- Background replacement is for the general purposes only, and its quality depends on how cleanly the person is separated.
- Moving the frame has no separate accessibility control yet.
These points describe app version 1.0.0 as of 23 September 2026.
